Honor Our Vets

 Honor Our VetsHonor Our Vets!

What does Veterans Day stand for? It’s a celebration to honor America’s veterans who have served in the Armed Forces for their patriotism, love of their country, and their willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Veterans Day is also known as the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month aka Armistice Day. However in 1978, President Gerald R. Ford signed a new law returning this day back to Veterans Day because it carried significant historical and patriotic value to Americans and veterans that deserved to be recognized.

It’s time to stand up and thank those men and women, moms and dads, brothers and sisters who have sacrificed so much. Thank those that have served and continue to serve and protect our country. Show a little appreciation to those you know and make their Veterans Day a memorable one. Put a sweet smile on their faces by giving back. Memorial Day Observations

Memorial Day 2016

Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner.  It marks the beginning of summer, spending more time with family and friends, and other fun things like more barbecues, playing in the pool, planning vacations and more. It is also time to reflect and honor the men and women who have served and are still serving in our armed forces. Time to show how proud we are to be an American! Support them by wearing your red, white, and blue, displaying that American flag proudly and with honor.

Red, White, & Blue LightingCandy Concepts, Inc. is the answer to your home or business needs. Let us help you with your retail needs for various types of facilities like neighborhood country stores, cafes’, bakeries, convenience stores, restaurants, and more.  We are here to help you. Now let’s get started! We have laid out a few products that will help with decorating and setting up a candy buffet. Also, as an extra bonus below, there is a game plan on the basics of setting up your event.

Light up area’s around your food tables, dessert tables, beverage tables, or in your kitchen with this cute little idea. Here we have our decorative Red, White, or Blue Fairy Lights that come in 4” or 6” lengths submerged into a sealed clear glass mason jar. The accent lighting LED lights are battery operated by two coin cell batteries that are included and replaceable. A variation of this jar is our very attractive 1 ¼ Gallon Bell Jars with Lids that we have also pictured in our candy section below. Any clear attractive container works well with this scenario and we have several to choose from.  Check out Candy Concepts website for various glass containers.

The 2 Quart Colored Metal Buckets are definitely being adding to my July 4th decoration Celebration Bucketscollection but only in the red, white, and blue color scheme. They will make great condiment holders for the tables. I plan to include paper towels, salt & pepper, ketchup, mustard, and hot sauce. Add a little white and blue cloth bows to the handle maybe. May even include disposable cameras to get other’s viewpoint on things. Don’t limit yourself to just these items, be creative and come up with your own purpose for the display buckets. Just remember these buckets are not water friendly, but they are a great idea for displaying wrapped candy too.

Finding decorations that go along with the military scheme and the red, white, and blue patriotic colors are easy. Select what you like best and do what’s best for your pocketbook. But what is fun and exciting for kids and adults is incorporating a candy buffet that match the color scheme. Listed below are a few variations from Candy Concepts, Inc. that you can choose from online that I personally know taste wonderfully.

Patriotic Red, White, and Blue CandyGummy Patriot Stars are fruit flavored gummies shaped as stars in the red, white, and blue colors. Use for candy dishes, adding atop cakes, cupcakes as decorations or as is. They are easy to eat by all ages. But be careful they are heat sensitive as most candies are so it might be a good idea to have your candy buffet set up inside. Patriot Mini Chocolate Hearts are foil wrapped solid milk chocolates. The shiny foil wrapping includes the red, white, and blue stars and stripes décor. You can purchase these chocolates in 5 or 10 lb. increments. Peppermint Candy Sticks aka circus sticks are a fun candy to have and useful for other things as well. They also come individually wrapped in clear wrapping to show off their twirling red, white, and blue stripes. Add them to water to slightly change the flavor. Some adults have been known to use them in their adult beverages as stir sticks to add a slight hint of flavor. Red, White, and Blue Gumball Mix is always fun and very eye catching in any glass container. Easy to grab and go for most people. Great for decorating tables too. Flavors included are as follows: red is cherry, white is fruit, and blue is blueberry.Camouflage Hummer with Candy

For and extra bit of fun, we have our Army Hummer with Candy. In honoring your returned Veterans, it come in a green camouflage and tan camouflage color!  A delightful pullback toy that includes candy. Stick Candy is a favorite of all ages as well! Your red color is the Strawberry Rock Candy Sticks, white is called the Rock Candy Sticks, and blue is Blue Raspberry Rock Candy Sticks. Mix together and add into one of our 1 ¼ Gallon Bell Jars with Lids to maintain freshness.Red, White, Blue Candy Decorations

Don’t forget to accessorize your candy buffet with our Candy Buffet Kit. It comes with three blue scoops sizes 2oz, 3oz, 4ozs and two 6” tongs one red and one white.

What’s our first plan of action now? Below you can find a suggestive outline that might help you in preparation for your event. As most of you already know, Memorial Day is known for picnics, parties, and outdoor celebrations. Ask a couple of your close neighborhood friends to help plan the event. You can schedule girls night out for a meeting or go out to lunch and make plans for your holiday event. Delegate task to those you know can handle it. For example if Mary is the art teacher at school, she can help with finding a few students to do face paintings. Okay time to make some plans and decisions:

  • Decide what type of event you wish to host. Both can be held outside but it is always a good idea to have a backup plan in case the weather doesn’t want to cooperate. So if you have a small place, make sure you have extra-large commercial tents available:
    • A casual event is more along the lines of picnics, barbecues, paper plates, and your invited guest bringing a covered dish. It starts at lunch time and ends whenever.
    • A formal event is great if you are planning to honor a veteran or families of veterans. Held around dinner time or dusk and in the evening while it is quiet.
  • Decide on decorations. This part is probably the easy part because your colors and theme has already been decided for you. Red, white, and blue has been and always will be the color scheme for Memorial Day along with the American flag patterns on the decorations, your foods, desserts, and more. You just have to decide how much decorating you want to do and how much to spend.
  • Party Foods are typically the all-American comfort foods like Hamburgers and Hotdogs, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, and Coleslaw. Don’t forget the homemade apple pies, cakes, and more. Add a candy display bar with an assortment of flavors all in red, white and blue colors in see through containers.
  • Entertainment is a fun one, especially if you are having kids attending. Decide how big you want to go with this one because this could get costly.
    • Face Painting – Most of the time you can find high school students in your neighborhood who are very artistic in your own backyard that may be interested in helping you with this one. Delegate one of those students to come up with 4 or 5 others to make a face painting schedule for throughout the day. Remember this is volunteer work.
    • Balloon Twisting – Don’t be afraid to ask the other parents about this one. A lot of parents have hired companies/people for birthday parties. Again, you may find students or parents in your neighborhood that truly enjoy doing this. Also incorporate a time limit on this one, especially if you are only able to fine one person. No luck finding someone locally, do a search on google. Do balloon twister in your city and state and see what comes up. Might need to delegate this to another parent helper.
    • Inflatable Slides – These are fun and they also offer bouncy castles too. There is a rental fee, so just know you are fore warned. You may have to sign a waiver about accidents and not holding the people that own the inflatables responsible. I just want you to keep that in mind.
    • Music – Decide what type of music. Think about your guest attending, their age, gender, what generation of music are most of your guest from. Keeping the music upbeat is great but not too upbeat that people do not understand it like the new generation music unless you live in the suburbs of nothing but young people. Live music is always enjoyable but is also costly unless you have a family member or know someone in the band. If you are having an all-day event, you definitely want music playing in the background. Make sure you set up all electronics away from water and the pool areas for safety reasons.
    • Games for both adults and kids – Try to plan the big games that everyone can play and that are not dangerous. If you have the space, whiffle ball is so much fun, volleyball of course, corn hole tournaments, slip and slide for the kids-yet some of the adults will indulge too. Several ideas are posted on pinterest.

Planning possibilities are endless and can be fun. Make it fun. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. These planning steps can be used for other events as well and they are only here to hopefully help and guide you. It’s easy, so don’t stress. Always come up with a plan B or a backup plan on location, especially if it’s not at your house and outside, if you have a band or deejay because emergencies happen, and if you decide to have your food catered in. Having that plan in place helps ease your stress level.
